Jaguar Land Rover and the Chinese automaker Chery are both properties of India’s Tata Motors. Tues Jaguar land Rover finished inking an agreement with Chery, a Chinese car maker. Getting approval
The two companies are still waiting for Chinese regulators to approve the $2.78 billion venture. The two automakers will produce and sell Land Rover, Chery and Jaguar vehicles in the country if they get approval.
Foreign and local get together
Approval can only come in a partnership from off-shore with a local Chinese business. The Chinese partner must own over 50 percent of the enterprise in order for it to qualify.
Step to be taken
Mumbai auto industry expert Vineet Hetamasaria said:
“This is an important step for Jaguar Land Rover and Tata Motors moving forward. Though this is only an agreement, and it will be some time before we see the results.”
Allocating the investment
Two unnamed sources told Reuters that the two corporations intend to spend $1 billion on a factory and another $1 billion on creating a new model specifically for China.
Manager at Raiffeisen Capital Management Juergen Maier said:
“A China-specific brand makes sense as you can target consumers looking to upgrade to Jaguar and Land Rover products.”
The rest of the investment
Much of the cash will be going into research and development to create brand new goods that will be jointly owned.
Land Rover holding out to get into China
Land Rover has considered moving into China previously. It wanted to get its world sales up. China has an enormous require for luxury vehicles at the moment, and it is only going up.
Jaguar Land Rover said in a statement:
“Demand for Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles continues to increase significantly in China and we believe that Jaguar Land Rover and Chery can jointly realize the potential of these iconic brands.”

China already has plants in it from Daimler AG, GM Co., and Volkswagen AG. Subaru’s parent business, Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd., has been waiting to hear on a petition it filed to Chinese regulators to do a partnership with Chery in China. No decision has been made yet.
